2008 scholarship recipients named
The Timothy L Correll Foundation, Inc announced today the winners of the 2008 Timothy L Correll Memorial Scholarship. The Timothy L. Correll Memorial Scholarship was established in 2003 in memory of Tim Correll, a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician who had a strong commitment to serving his local community.
The award is a $500 scholarship for an outstanding commitment to service and a strong desire to carry that commitment into a career in fire science, nursing, or emergency medical technology (EMT/Paramedics).
"Tim would be proud to see these young people rewarded for their dedication and achievement," said Karen Correll, executive director of the TLC Foundation. “He always had a real heart for helping people, and I know there are kids that have a heart to do this kind of work. …We will continue to help young people committed to making a difference train in these careers that help others. We know that was important to Tim. It is an honor to support and encourage young people to pursue careers in health and emergency service careers. We look forward to the achievements of these outstanding young people."
For the 2008 academic year, the foundation received 90 applications from students from nearly every county in Minnesota. Eligible students must be entering a state-accredited program in the fall of 2008. Selection criteria included the students' potential to succeed, desire to complete their education, desire to make a positive impact on the community and financial need.
